We found a local place that is a microcosm of the U.S. Botanic Garden's tropical room, our favorite this time of year.
One thing I appreciate about SoCal is that waking up early guarantees low crowding and low traffic, which was never true in D.C. except for Sundays. I recall getting on the road at 5:30am in D.C. and being appalled by all the people already on the road--as though one couldn't wake up early enough to get time to oneself. (Now we're working on having the kids sleep until 6am, haha!)
There were very few people here; we were thrilled to find a winter place like we enjoyed at our old home.
