Sunday night, these two were once again shirtless, pulling their pants up high above their belly buttons, calling themselves "super wrestles" [sic] and laughing hysterically in their bedroom instead of sleeping.
Quality Time with the Kids
Thursday, March 30, 2017
While the Engineer went to Michigan with DH, the Firstborn, Sweet Pea, Mr. Serious, and Mom had a stay-cation.
He kept saying, "I get to do whatever I want because my brother is not here! I can watch whatever movies I want to watch and play with whatever toys I want to play with!"
But, by day three, he said, "I miss my brother."

In order to inspire this one to be good host, I told him that if he offered donuts to our guests first and ended up with no donuts left for himself, I would take him out for his very own special donut. It was an effective motivation.
Here is how we kept busy (in addition to reminding the Firstborn several times that he had three exotic trips without his younger brother back in the day; and this was younger brother's first solo trip). Of course, he asked with a smile, "Is my brother getting three trips or just one trip?" But, also by the end of the weekend, he said he wanted his brother to get THREE trips like he did.

He chose to wear this hat all weekend. I'm not complaining!
Check out the leg rolls we've gained since starting Xantac with this little guy. Baby fat rolls are the best! :)
These guys benefited greatly from being outside on our tremendous, eighty-degree Saturday!
Everyone acted more mature and capable.
Sometimes switching who is with whom gives us better behavior all around.
Big Sister
Wednesday, March 29, 2017
This girl has adjusted best to losing baby-status among our kids. She's a great big sister! You can catch a teeny smile from him at the end of the first movie.
Improving Form
Tuesday, March 28, 2017
Someone's discipline and confidence have improved noticeably since we spent our life savings on a semester of self defense class. His form improves every week. I'm starting to see big improvements in my children lately; and it is so incredibly rewarding! <3
Crazy Pants in the Morning
Monday, March 27, 2017
She must brush her own teeth like her big brother. The Engineer has been doing all kinds of big-boy things lately! Sweet Pea wants to be just like him. (Also, Crazy Pants seems like a more fitting nickname lately.)
Potty Training Successes!
Sunday, March 26, 2017
We are obsessed with underwear around here. Don't worry. These are all clean. We've established that when one is accident free for 5 days, one can wear underwear, not pull-ups.
There was a lot of unpleasantness. Sigh.
Finally, we caught him at just the right moment, put him on the pot, and after a few hours of speeches of encouragement, he made a solid deposit! He was so proud of himself. So are we!!
"Me, Too!"
Friday, March 24, 2017
One of her most common phrases is "me, too!" She will not get lost in the shuffle. She is a self-advocate. It's one of the things I really like about her -- right up there with her beautiful blue eyes.
While setting out dinner tonight, I looked out the window and saw her mouthing "me, too!" from inside. She wanted to light saber spar with the boys and drink from their "coconuts" (two pictures below, bottom right).
I love the imaginative play that this nice weather inspires in our own back yard! The Firstborn is great about including Sweet Pea in their activities. He made her a tiny coconut milk with a straw.
Of course, it doesn't take much advocating to get DH to push her on the swing. She has him wrapped around her finger. It's such a sweet relationship they have. I've enjoyed parenting opposite-sex children and am happy that DH gets that experience now too. Of course, I love having a girl as well. She's the one who cheers everyone up with her smile and laugh. She can pull her brothers out of a funk. We love her so much!

Yes, that is a broken hanger on the ground. No, I'm not sure how it got there; but that seems to be a part of life lately!
Hair Styling or Lessons in Letting Go?
Thursday, March 23, 2017
"Mom, I want to comb my OWN hair!"
"Okay, can we comb it to the side?"
"I like to comb it straight like this."
"Hmmm. I think you look extra handsome with your hair combed to the side because I can see more of your face and your handsome eyes. But, you get to choose because it's your hair."
"Well, I like my hair combed straight down."
"Can I try to comb it and see if you like it? If you don't like it, you can change it..."
"No. I want to comb my OWN hair. Remember, I get to choose, Mom."
"What do you like about your hair combed straight down?"
"I think I look kind of handsome like that!"
(Combing hair for a long time.)
"Okay, Mom. Do I look handsome now?"
(This is a new hair style. I love this kid!)
Tacos
Wednesday, March 22, 2017
"These are the delicious tacos in the whole world! They have chicken and cheese and whipped cream!" (sour cream)
An older mom once told me that she loved the simplicity of boys -- how her boys came home from school talking about the amazing hamburgers they ate for lunch while her girls came home quiet and brooding and complicated. Though, I can't say that this one is that simple; I do love the moments that animate him and inspire him to verbalize gratitude! He gets very excited about food that others give him. Acts of service and hugs are his love languages. We love him so much!
Bacon
Tuesday, March 21, 2017
We had bacon for the first time in a long time this morning. This one told me ten times, "That was AWESOME bacon, Mom!"
I let them have one slice only (because it was Applegate Naturals). I told them that they were eating $.50 worth of bacon each. Then, this one said, "When I am big I will makes LOTS of money and buy my OWN bacon!"
I did not tell him that I will come over and eat his bacon like this:
Getting Stronger!
This one started lifting his chest WAY off the floor. He is rolling and rolling (only to the right) and lifting his bum up high. He will receive the helmet as soon as we can get our insurance and our doctor to chat about what we've seen over the last 2 months of PT. This year, I've concluded that doctors only know what they see in 15 minutes, far from everything. I've had to be an aggressive advocate for this little guy. I'm convinced it will be difficult -- if not impossible -- to correct his dexterity issues without the helmet. But that's a boring story. How about some cute pictures?! :)
Eldest Musings
Monday, March 20, 2017
"Mom, Saleem says I'm funny. But I don't want to be funny. I want to be cool!"
"Isn't it cool to be funny?"
"No! It's cool to run really fast and fly a jet plane sooo fast. And I want to be cool, not funny!"
"You are cool, Bud."
(Have I mentioned that we are serious?!)
The Engineer
Lately he sings, "Mommy makes chicken! Mommy makes chicken! Mommy makes chicken! We love her so much!"
Yes, you can buy your way into this one's heart with food!
(Today, he also announced that he wants to be a doctor when he gets big.)
