at the cost of all you have, get understanding.

St. Angela Merici

Do not lose heart, even if you should discover that you lack qualities necessary for the work to which you are called. He who called you will not desert you, but the moment you are in need he will stretch out his saving hand. -St. Angela Merici

St. Francis de Sales

"In the morning, prepare your soul to be at peace. Take care throughout the day to remember that resolution and to reaffirm it. Should you become disturbed, do not lose heart and do not be pained by it, but having recognized the situation calmly humble yourself before God and attempt to restore your mind to peace."

Wisdom del Número Cuatro

"A hairy chest means you're strong."

(He's clearly a sage. Also, he cares a great deal about strength and will force himself to eat vegetables only if he thinks strength will be the outcome. He is the one who was pushing chairs across our kitchen at 9 months, before he could walk...)

Yellow Warbler

As though he knew we needed something cheerful in winter, this yellow warbler appeared at our banana tree. He is very skiddish and flies away at the slightest movement from humans. However, I opened our patio door and zoomed my lens to capture him.

That Which Closely Resembles Omicron

Friday, January 21, 2022

We don't talk about covid. However, an illness closely resembling Omicron whipped through our home. It looked like the normal cold, except in mom, who had a low-grade fever for 5 days. The most recently vaccinated family members had few to no symptoms at all. We did our best to have a good attitude about it; but were mostly dependent upon God's mercy!

It took DH and I two hours of intense elbow grease to get our home from disgusting to passable after this illness. I'm so glad my husband is a helper!

There was a lot of TV and a lot of eating in the living room while mom slept.

Anyway, mom is having a problem with energy again. So, any prayers you want to offer for a happy resolution are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Aunt Monica for making us laugh:

"Wow. Did you hit anyone?" -Mom

"No. There was a lady in front of us at one point. So, I put on the stroller breaks and skidded in my shoes to a halt and came within three inches of her but didn't hit her."

"I'm glad I wasn't there."

"It's a good thing you weren't there." -DH

Morning Motivation

Wednesday, January 5, 2022

By Mr. Serious, who was so proud of himself. It reminded me of Grumpy CatHe was thrilled that he could write a word besides his name:

By the barista at my favorite coffee place. She is always negative. This day she didn't even try to get the froth right. It was so over-the-top that it made me LOL, which was what I needed ironically.

Best of Break -- By Smart Phones

Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.

-Benjamin Franklin

DH took me to Segerstrom for a mariachi concert in the interest of pursuit of me and my pursuit of improved Spanish. It was lovely and different than what we normally do.

He has kept this tradition with the kids, continuing the wonderful memories he has of doing this as a child.

He demonstrated Olympic-level patience. I was impressed.

We had several "treats" brought to us from neighbors. I thought about how wonderful it was to share small gifts with those who live nearby.

This is just too cute for me. I can't get over that finger!

This was a "real museum" with several dinosaur skeletons.

The baby sat this one out with me and Pop Pop while we wrapped presents all day.

And he looked cute:

Day 6,000 of being home. Crazy hair, don't care:

She wanted only roller skates for Christmas. Pop Pop bought them for her. She put them on each morning before leaving her bedroom and spent the entire Christmas break in them.

Hot flash. #LivinTheDream
(Don't judge my ridiculously unclean mirror.)

Better outside than inside with this pandemonium:

He's long been ready for this mobile. Thanks, Pop Pop!

Our "big gifts." I had this idea that we needed to help our kids develop their talents, which meant trying a lot of different things. I felt strongly that a piano was a true need and not just a want. The Engineer and I prayed for a cheap or free piano because God absolutely answers prayers like that. Christmas week, DH messaged a musical friend about a place to find a piano for less than 10K. The friend had this, which he said we could have for the cost of moving it ($200). It was just tuned and "sounds good," according to this friend. He was right. God is so good!

The book ends:

I took out my middle boy. He was a sweet date. I showed him pictures of his Christmas program; and he told me who was who. So-and-so is a nice boy; and so-and-so is "sometimes mean and sometimes nice." When I asked him what he was, he said, "sometimes mean and sometimes nice." But to all the girls, he attributed niceness. Coincidentally, a little girl came up to him today and gave him an enormous hug and a huge hello. He stood there and took it like a man. DH said, "if I were a girl, I'd have a crush on him too." Not gonna lie, he's suuuuper huggable.

The kids were ecstatic at Pop Pop's arrival:

One day, I took a nap (trouble sleeping at night, aging...) and came out to the Fifth having second lunch. He truly helped himself... got the stool, opened the fridge, opened the tupperware, and sat down to a meal.
