Firstborn’s 8th Grade Graduation

Saturday, May 30, 2026

The end of all things is at hand. Therefore, be serious and sober for prayers. Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you.

But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.

-1 Peter 4:7-13

Today's Mass reading was perfectly timed. He received his diploma tonight after a week of celebrating. Here are some of the things he did:

Knott’s the day after the Festival.

Our rector participated:

Awards night on Tuesday where the Firstborn was recognized for being accepted to his high school’s honors track. He also received two scholarships for altar service.

The Pastor’s Award was a surprise.

His friend, Kevin, also received the award; and his friend, Blaise, received another award honoring his service at his parish.

Picnic on Wednesday, which I co-chaired:

All 54 of the 8th graders participated.

Final Dance. The parents could attend the final 30 minutes and could dance with their children. My child wanted no part of that.

Somehow this was okay at the same time:

The theme was "a trip around the world."

I am posting this in humility as I was on the end, distorted and widened by the lens. Good times.

This morning, we celebrated Baccalaureate Mass.

Following, there was a 20-minute slideshow.

These three amigos had a competition for who appeared the least. That person won because "we all hate taking pictures." The Firstborn informed me that he lost. The winner stealthily avoided the school photographer. Somehow he evaded shots everyone else was in.

Tonight was the graduation itself.
