The big boys and Dad participated. This was a thrill for the boys. They lasted until midnight, when one had hogged the only thermal sleeping bag for too long. 😂 They are still talking about how much fun they had!
"You My Bess Fwend"
Says the one with zero sisters, but seven girl cousins, including this one her age. They are super cute together lately.
My Gourmet Chef
DH made these with little effort, inspired by his kolache experience in Houston. They are like stromboli with less fat. His bread is excellent here. He has a gift!
A Much Needed Date Night
Sunday, April 22, 2018
I finally reached out to 2941 Restaurant, the place on the lake where DH proposed 8 years ago. They made us special menus and brought us complimentary dessert. Everything was deliciously superior -- the butter, the coffee, my French quail. The service was excellent -- friendly but not condescending or overbearing. We needed to rejuvenate more than normal. This was a perfect special occasion date.

Outings with Sweet Pea
Friday, April 20, 2018
We finally had some one-on-one time! She talked to everyone at Starbucks, interrupting conversations to point and yell, "What's your name?" She also asked what everyone was eating and if she could have another guy's water. They all loved her, of course, and told me about their children. When she started jumping on the seats, we left for a playground.
I love when I have a chance to watch one kid at a time. The sibling fellowship is tremendous; but I also like this:
Having a daughter is a huge blessing to me. I'm so glad I have her!
Our Lady of the Smile
Thursday, April 19, 2018
It took 6.5 years of parenting for this gift from the girls I proctored at college to ironically be smashed over a siblings head. (Lots of screaming, but even the hurt one claimed it was an accident.)
However, the Engineer came up with a solution using our scented candle wax. He was so proud of himself -- and mostly happy about fixing something for his mom. He also set the lunch table today. He's a great boy. We are proud to him and love him so much!
First Lost Tooth!
Tuesday, April 17, 2018
At six-and-a-half years old, this one is showing signs of reasonable thought. It's really edifying to watch his transformation. The other day he made me a beautiful note so that I could "always remember how much I love you." I asked him, "What can Mom give you so that you always remember how much she loves you?" He said with a laugh, "But I always remember how much you love me, Mom! Even when I'm at lunch at school, I never forget that you love me."
Retreat
This post merits only thought-provoking images. My time on retreat (Thursday night until Sunday afternoon) was discerning, recollected, and inspired. With the exception of Sunday brunch, confession, and discussing logistics, my weekend was silent.
I put off going on retreat due to DH's work demands for more than three years. That was way too long. The vertical life is critical and necessary to manage the horizontal life.
I was thoroughly blessed on this retreat with insights, resolutions, and peace.
Mr. Serious: Eighteen Months!
Monday, April 16, 2018
The nurse asked if he was close in age to Sweet Pea. Why, yes. Yes indeed! Surprisingly, Sweet Pea weighed 5 lbs more than he did this morning, but I'd put money on him passing her before he turns 3.
He's using her toothbrush in secret here:
These cheeks get tons of kisses as they should!
They look almost the same size here:
You can tell how strong he is in these:
Current stats:
Weight: 23.3 lbs., 38th%
Height: 31", 9th%
Head circ.: 19", 75th%
Seventy-Five Degree Days
Saturday, April 7, 2018
This is my favorite temperature. And we had it on Friday. We pushed aside all the non-essentials to spend time outside!
The cherry blossoms in the National Arboretum are in bloom -- as are the Jefferson Memorial tidal basin trees. It's been far too crowded for me to take the kids this year; but we will again soon!
