Santa Barbara

Wednesday, December 30, 2020

We explored this Mission city two days after Christmas as our "local" Mission canceled "Capistrano Lights." A friend described SB as "somewhere left of Stalin," and based on Shoreline Park's sidewalk graffiti, that's true. However, California's coastline is still some of the most beautiful land in the world; and we feel blessed to be so close to it!

Fifty-percent of the Engineer's life is spent kicking a football.

Presence

Monday, December 28, 2020

Presence is my word of 2021. So naturally, I'm making a post about presents.

The kids loved their Lego sets and RC cars most, which they received from the grandparents, once again making me wonder why we buy them presents.

"Christmas Is in TWO Days!"

Wednesday, December 23, 2020

Sweet Pea woke up shouting this to the siblings. And we also discovered -- happily -- that we have a poinsettia plant in our yard.

We possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. -2 Peter 1:19

Excitement on the Way to School

Monday, December 21, 2020

We heard a strange sound in the sky above, like a very close, slow helicopter. This thing was huge, though I'm told the WWII blimps were 4x this size. Regardless, it's much larger than the inflatables outside of the tire shops. Haha.

Improving Moods

[Phone pics.]

We've had issues with kindness lately, mostly to siblings. So after school, mom hauled the school kids to Crystal Cove for a mood lift. The ocean was at very low tide. So, many rocks were visible. (No more body boards here!) We found a couple of sea anemones. After a couple of minutes, the whining and fighting had ceased. Phew.

Red Sky in the Morning...

Thursday, December 3, 2020

I was so delighted to see this beautiful sunrise until I realized that it was smoke fog. Ash is falling all around us like we're next to a campfire. We are safe, though Trabuco & Silverado Canyons are burning with high winds that continue through 6pm PST. Our old neighborhood was evacuated again.

"Everyone who listens to these words of mind and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house solidly on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock."

-Matt. 7:24-25 (Today's Gospel)

F-5's 15 Month

Monday, November 30, 2020

He is growing nicely. His vocabulary is expanding. He says his big sister's name, Pop Pop, Dada, and Mama. One time he said "orange juice" and pointed to it.

He takes off his socks and shoes, draws lines, and mimics behaviors he observes, like coughing into his elbow, which is absolutely hilarious and completely 2020!

He is a great fan of his big siblings and seeks them out for play. He smiles and waves at everyone and is often our MVP.
