New Camera + Discovery Museum Hodge Podge

Thursday, July 26, 2018

DH let me upgrade my camera to the Sony a6000 for my birthday. It has three things that I'm already using:

1) Larger image sensor,
2) 179 focal points on autofocus,
3) super-fast shutter speed.

The faded, vertical lines are part of the steel fence:

I was judicious about not capturing other people's kids. Because the Firstborn is so fast and friendly, there are fewer pictures of him.

I am very much a student; but am happy that I could pick up this with a 10 minute demo and take reasonably improved shots of my kids. We will still use the Canon Powershot 230 because it's the best in its class and fits in my purse. And, of course, I continue to take phone photos.

Engineer-isms

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

"Mom, remember that guy said, 'water wins.'?" (remembering a comment by a priest-friend last Easter, referencing a current water spill in our kitchen)

"Here. You can have this picture I painted so you always remember it. Mom, I remember a long, long time ago Dad bought me cannoli and I remember it. I am very smart because I can remember things that other people can't remember."
(To which Mom said, "It's not a competition with other people. Just do your best!")

"In forty years, I will be the grandpa."

"I think there is a baby in your belly right now!"

"Can I make pizza with you?"

"Mr. Serious is my baby. He wuvs me."

"I am smarter than Mr. Serious. He is one-half of 'smart' and I am a million halves of 'smart.'"
(My IQ probably increased 10 points just from listening to that.)

Baby Fever

Tuesday, July 24, 2018

The kids have baby fever. I have been informed that we need two more babies.

Mr. Serious is the Engineer's "baby," even though he's well into toddlerhood (21 mos.); and we need a baby for the Firstborn and a baby for Sweet Pea.

They are very serious about this and mention it every day.

On Sunday, the Engineer said with a big sparkle, "I think there is a baby in your belly right now!"

I told him he needed to talk to God about that. It makes me happy that they are so excited about babies. We turned a corner on that subject when we had Mr. Serious. Suddenly, the others had important roles. He has helped them think beyond themselves.

It helps that he is way cute and easygoing.

"A Name That Will Lead You into Battle"

Monday, July 23, 2018

My sister's classmate said this about Mr. Serious's name when he was born. It was pretty funny to me; his name is super manly. However, he is completely non-violent. He grunts and growls and has his own language, which we laugh at far too much. And he walks like he's at the line of scrimmage. I took some pics, which reminded me of the original comment:

Looking at some red meat and fish filets:

Taking off in his canoe:

Also, he knows he loved:

Roasted hash browns, chicken sausage, and omelettes. I love eating these things with the whole family. We get to do this only on the weekends.
