This one is encouraged to spell phonetically in school. He's been practicing a lot. He comes home tired. He is doing well in school (already had my first conference). We are proud of him!
Fall Biking Adventures: C&O Canal at Great Falls
This trail came highly recommended and was my favorite so far. We entered the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal trail at Old Angler's Inn. If we had more time/equipment, I would have walked all the way to the big falls. But that's another trip for another day -- hopefully with DH!

The adventures continue! Last year, I could barely get out of the house with 4 needy kids not yet in Kindergarten. This year, I bike with my babies because I can! I crossed 3 bridges, visited the church where we were married, and let Sweet Pea run free in the park. I am loving this fall! Good things come to those who wait.

This was a "boys and mom" Sunday adventure taken while DH worked and watched Sweet Pea. I've been wanting to bike this for a long time -- every time I noticed it from the road. There are great views at almost every point. I would definitely do it again!
It was super hot. So, we grabbed a drink at the new MGM. Many families were there doing what we were. The valets were super friendly. They let us lock our bikes outside -- next to a Bentley.
In the interest of enjoying our ride, I did not snap pictures of the return, but the Maryland to Virginia views from here are breathtaking!

This trip was beautiful, but a dud in terms of exercise. It took forever to find a place to park; and when I began biking, there were ubiquitous "Dismount bike!" signs. Live and learn. Originally, my plan was to enter at Mile 0 of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal trail. The trip was a 'win' in terms of beauty, thoroughly appreciated by Sweet Pea. My goal is to give the babies lots of good memories and inspirations. So, almost anything we do together is a 'win' overall!

The Eldest came home with this. Actually it's not funny at all -- just interesting that he knew exactly how to depict "NOT Taking Care of Books". If only I'd known the correct motivation was making a cat smile. We could have saved a few dozen books...
School can cause anxiety for sensitive, reserved souls. We've been talking about being brave -- that it's different that being confident or outgoing. It's moving ahead despite fear. So, I've asked this one if he can be "super brave" and "make one friend today" and "make Mama proud!" He said, "Yes! I can!" When I picked him up from school a few mornings ago, he had a huge smile spread across his face and he said, "Mommy, I made a fwiend today! His name is Sodo!" The best part was me trying to pronounce that and him correcting me a hundred times! He is pushing himself. It makes me proud!
He wanted help with his bath but did not want me to see him using the toilet!

This is her wake-up ritual. Sometimes she even walks upstairs to retrieve the only cordless phone she can reach -- the one on my night stand -- and brings it downstairs with an enthusiastic, "We call Daddy! Say, 'Hi!'" She tells me randomly throughout the day, "I love Daddy so much!" I'm not sure a girl has ever loved her daddy more...

Healthcare Visits

This one has had so many healthcare visits! Thankfully, everything has been treatable so far. I brought the good camera with me the other day to try to capture some of these every day moments. There is so much waiting-for-doctors in our lives! I'm starting to think of it as part of my job. (Yes, I probably should have been doing that all along!)
It took big sister a half-second to place her body between the camera and Mr. Serious. As you can see, she is seriously attention-deprived:
This entire sequence reminds me of these two back in the day, except they're completely different people. But is there really anything new under the sun?
