Some candids from Christmas morning. Half of the crew got sick. We split up for evening and Midnight Masses.

Parenting Progress!

Friday, December 20, 2019

"Mom, someone gave me these candy canes that I don't like; but I didn't say I don't like them. I just said, 'Thank you.'"

It's moments like these that I love about parenting. I'm simultaneously tickled AND proud that he thought about how his words affected others and acted accordingly.

Adventures in Family Photography

It truly is amazing that these people ever end up on the same plane, matching, without dirt stains. Their level of activity is impressive.

Nevertheless, I'm still trying to improve my skills. Here are some outtakes. I'm grateful that DH cooperated with our adventure.

We've made some progress in pose-cooperation. I tried to explain the physics of position/light to the big kids so they don't get stubborn/impossible when I ask them to move a hair this way or that.

We had a perfect, overcast day until we went out, LOL. Such is life. I wanted to frame them with this tree; but there were too many bikers/walkers. Hopefully, you like how the final product turned out!

There was this attempted jumping shot. They agreed to jump. No one really did except Sweet Pea.

I just love this child!

Remembering Grandma

Thursday, December 12, 2019

Today is her birthday. I asked the kids what they like about Grandma. The Engineer laughed like that was a crazy question and said, "Everything!" Later, he said he liked, "Lots of things. I like that she makes us quilts."

Sweet Pea said, "She plays with me and I can still talk to her because she's right next to me. All the time. Jesus is next to me right now holding Grandma."

Mr. Serious said, "She make monster truck for me!"

The Eldest misses her a lot.

We think of her and talk to her often. And we have the angel, who reminds us that she is near.

Some Cheer

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

There have been so many emotions going on here lately. Darker days and colder weather if you can believe it! A good amount of rain. Some leaves are changing colors and falling. We're told it doesn't get much colder than 60* during the day. So, we are counting our blessings there.

The kids are slowly adjusting to the big move. Some of them loathe change -- even the disruption caused by reorganizing our morning schedule. We are working on solutions there.

DH and I look back at the last 8 years and wonder how we ever did this on his old schedule. Now we eat breakfast and dinner together every day. Every weekend is family time. We are so grateful for his job, which truly ensures work/life balance.

There have been so many doctor appointments, IEP meetings, and phone calls to insurance. And no one looks out for your kids like you do. I'm building my advocacy skills.

Today and Monday we received some good news and are moving forward with a program that should bring everyone in this home more peace. We've been stalled on each step forward for this or that reason -- mostly insurance needing more information.

I've repeatedly answered the same questionnaires and could probably minor in a particular diagnostic, but that is neither here nor there. The Lord has put so many helpful people in our lives through the years. Each one has given us information that is pertinent now. I am so grateful for the graceful manner in which God has carried us through intense situations through the years. He is good!

...And back to another questionnaire, which is only 22 pages...
