Born Again of Water and Spirit
Sunday, June 21, 2015
Four babies were baptized with Angie, including one set of twins, on Sunday. Most of their names were angels' names (Raphael, Gabriel, Angelina, and Elizabeth). We thought it was neat that even St. Elizabeth's conception of St. John was announced by an angel. So, an angelic affair was had this day!
Angela was the youngest by far and the only one who screamed. So, she is already making her mark.
Baptisms are conveniently scheduled during nap time. Also, the church was really hot following the previous night's power outages, which "re-set" the thermostat to something inadequate for the number of people who attend the 7 Masses on Sunday. The big brothers hung out in the cry room (which was much cooler) and visited with Grandpa & Grandma. (Thank you!!)
We didn't have an elaborate party because I'm still recovering from birth. Our M.O. has been to have our babies baptized asap, which has the unintended consequence of DH and I not being in the best condition for hosting. We do our best. We were lucky enough to have one of the godparents fly in from Kansas. Unfortunately, his wife couldn't make it as she is also fewer than 12 weeks postpartum.
My sister stood in as her proxy. (Thank you!)
The boys graduated from the cry room to the left wing to the nave throughout the ceremony.
This was our best attempt at a family photo:
Approximately one-half second later Boy 1 was climbing up DH and doing flips:
Mother's Helper
We were very lucky to have Aunt Roxane come helps us out for 6 days after my hospital discharge. She cooked gourmet meals every day, entertained the boys, washed many loads of laundry, and was a HUGE help. Here are a couple of photos. Both boys asked about her in the morning after she left. We had such a great time! (And mom got some good rest and quality time with each child.) Thank you, Aunt Roxane!!
The Engineer: Two Year Checkup
Friday, June 19, 2015
We are on our third pediatric practice. The current one does not send home a stat sheet. However, the Engineer is in the 50th percentile for weight and the 70th percentile for height. They gave us a copy of his eyes. I love how sweet and innocent he looks here:
He was a brave little boy on Wednesday. He had two pricks, one with the collection of 10 drops of blood. He didn't cry at all for the prick and only cried when his finger was squeezed. I almost felt worse than he did!
He panicked when the nurse said to get undressed down to his diaper. I asked him if he was afraid. He said yes. Then I told him that it's okay to be afraid. Most people are a little scared when they go to the doctor, just like I was when I went to the doctor to have Angie. He was listening very intently (I have to get as much in as possible when the kids are listening! Thank you, Aunt Roxane for watching the other two!!)
I told him that nothing would hurt and that he didn't have to be afraid. The doctor just had to make sure he was healthy. He responded in his sweet, toddler voice, "I don' haf be 'fwaid!" Then he read calmly until the practitioner arrived.
He is a sweet, goofy, chatty boy these days. He repeats everything. And he seems to understand everything. When we were waiting for the lab to be ready for him, he pulled two toy structures over to me and said, "I bring this next to mama!" He's a little shy and prefers to be close to dad or mom in a new environment. There are many things we love about our middle boy. He's also very interested in his sister.
Seeing her will make him stop crying. Yesterday, he threw a temper tantrum in the middle of our bedroom until he realized she was in the bassinet. He went from crying to smiling in .2 seconds when he peeked in and saw her. I wish I had it on camera!
(Pardon the bleached shirt. That went in a load after a bleach load. I simply no longer use bleach.)
We love you, Little Engineer!!
