Politics in Newport Beach
California is so funny. We have every belief system imaginable including total hedonism (as long as one looks 🔥 being a hedonist, which requires some self-control). Orange County, especially the wealthier areas, tend to be red. Most of the densely populated areas, San Francisco especially, are deep blue. I drove behind this Tesla recently. Today, while walking gingerly toward our Tesla after working out in Back Bay, an older woman passed me and asked if I were afraid to drive my Tesla. (I was trying to ward off another disc herniation which tightening of my lower back muscles threatened again.)
I used the above line back to her, which was the wrong thing to say. I should have pegged her as a wealthy deep-red type. She responded, “Don’t say that! He’s not crazy. He’s just cleaning things up. There is so much waste.” “Yes, agreed,” I responded. “You don’t get as far as he has professionally if you’re crazy.” I smiled and offered a cheerful parting which she responded to positively. I rolled my eyes inside because in order to be that successful, one has to be willing to sacrifice everything for the success of his endeavor, which is not normal. One might call it insane to trade a stable home for unprecedented professional success. Working on Capitol Hill has discouraged me from towing any one party line. It’s very hard to listen to political opinions from people who don’t know how the inside works. But I let her talk, didn’t argue, and smiled knowing I could write about it here later. Thank you for listening. 🤣
Potty Training Graduate!
This Friday Sol graduated potty training at his preschool. This effectively means we save $200/month. I told him we are so proud of him and will get him a HUGE special treat. He responded, “Can I get money instead of a special treat?”^Also, the preschool cracks me up with their notes about every single trip and fall. This one was the best.
He is just so cute. His confidence surpasses everyone else’s. He knows he is loved and liked and walks around with that conviction like a boss.
Fabulous Fourth’s First Confession
Saturday, March 8, 2025
He was so happy. He went to his best friend’s home and played with legos for 3 hours afterward. Both he and his friend are introverts and wanted to play without all their other siblings around. In our case, it was because the siblings would “go crazy.” I couldn’t argue with that. Haha. So the parents and I chatted for hours while we watched the boys play. Such down-to-earth people! I can see why the Fourth likes him.

Who Wore It Best?

Kidding. I love this day so much! Filled with hope. All the lapsed Catholics come to Mass even though it is not a Holy Day. Our church had Masses all day. The one I attended had four rows of people standing in the narthex. I prayed for all of them. May your Lent be off to a good start.

Opening day and the Engineer scored a goal! His team shut out the other. This is his third season; and he's really showing some skill!
It might be the coach. He's pretty amazing.
At her first practice, the coach asked if anyone there had ADHD. Recounting the story, she told me, "I was the only one who raised my hand; and the coach said, 'Good! I'm going to need you to go crazy on the field.'" She said with a huge grin. She can deliver!
This sport actually made her tired. I think we'll stick with this one!
She spies her mom spying her.
Girls' Names
Saturday, March 1, 2025
"Hey, Mom! Do you want to know what name I'm going to name my girl if I have one? I don't think you're going to like it, but..."
"What name is it?"
"Keeley."
"How will you spell Keeley?"
"K-E-E-L-E-Y ... like Kailey but Keeley."
A few days later, "If I have another girl, I will name her Rochelle."
"So, your girls will be Keeley and Rochelle?"
"Yes."
