Rubik’s Cube

Monday, June 29, 2026

The Engineer figured out the rubik’s cube. He then re-set it and kept re-solving it. Time 3 took 9 minutes; time 4 took 7 minutes.

He watched a tutorial while I drove to shamelessly pick up a leather lounge chair from a friend’s neighbor. So I heard the instructions. There were logical algorithms. But there were so many of them that the human mind needs quick processing and memory skills to successfully complete it. I was humored by the use of “front” and “top” and “bottom,” the presumption being there is a front, back, top, bottom, etc. Nevertheless, solving these cubes as fast as possible has become the Engineer’s measure of intelligence.

Forty-Four!

Sunday, June 28, 2026

Woke up to a dozen birthday texts from my Central and Eastern peeps, had cupcakes by my girl, the golden boys “cleaned the garage” for me, I picked up all the free things (one for each of my kids), took the Eldest to rugby, the Engineer returned from camp, watched the 3 biggest boys serve Mass, and was taken to an authentic Italian restaurant by DH. The best thing about this day was the Fifth waking me up by crawling into my bed to sing “Happy Birthday!” He remembered on his own. 🥹 I do not deserve this life and am so grateful! 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼 This is 44.

Guess the Kid?

Wednesday, June 24, 2026

I sent the upper right picture to DH, who asked me who it was. He said we need more clues like the helmet on the torticollis kid. So I made him this. It’s everyone at 21 months:

We love DH so much!! His favorite memory of his dad is the Fiesta Bowl. My favorite memory of my dad is how persistent he was during the first 10 years of parenting when faced with acute trials in work and family life.

DH took the Engineer to Camp.

Sweet Pea, The Engineer, and the Fifth made cards for DH.

Women’s Summit

Saturday, June 20, 2026

We need heroes. Sweet Pea and I attended this women’s summit today for inspiration and encouragement.

This is Sr. Cora with the Let Love podcast.

Sweet Pea really wanted to ask a question and fearlessly spoke into the mic among 1,400 women. I did not push her, although she asked me to walk up with her. “How old are you,” the panel speaker asked. “Eleven.” She received applause from the entire audience.

This day was full of encouragement and was just what we needed. I love everything Helen Alvaré says. So she was my favorite. Sweet Pea loved Kelly Ninmer, who spoke about foster care. She already wants to foster kids.

Cheers to a New Day!

Monday, June 15, 2026

Mr. Serious brought me a water like this. “For the lady,” he said as he handed it to me.

The little brothers wanted in on the action. So I told them to ask Mr. Serious to make them one as well.

Sweet Pea asked me if she could borrow my phone to take a photo of the sunset. She did not mention that she was climbing up on the roof to do so. She came back with this.:
