Random August

Coronavirus and lockdown are affecting different people in different ways. I finally figured out some things that are non-negotiables for me -- if I want a chance at having a great day:

1. Wake up at 5:00am.
2. Go for a walk outside for 30 minutes alone, before doing any work.
3. Pray and meditate before doing any work.

On days I'm successful at this, I'm much more at peace and prepared to handle what the day offers.

It's so easy to compromise the alone time. But I feel resentful and angry if I do not get it. So, I've been taking it. And DH has been so supportive.

We had another mourning dove visit our yard.

We also discovered that some of our vines are raspberries!

This is a passionfruit. It turns red when it is ripe and contains sweet-smelling, edible seeds.

Jalapeno. These are much less hot than our pequins.

Papaya leaves against Spanish tiles. This is a view I love.

We got most of our security deposit back and it all went to dental care immediately. We had one extraction, on crown, and like 15 cavities. Irish teeth for the win!

The problem I've run into is that the good dentists aren't in-network with most insurances. So you end up paying a large portion out-of-pocket if you want dentists with good reputations. (I'm happy for someone to tell me I'm wrong here and show me a better way.) One of our kids had sealants that cracked in less than a year and had cavities underneath them. This dentist told me she'll do them herself and they should last 10 years...

They were getting along!

Discussing geography and history:

I bought a bike (to combat those quarantine lbs.). DH sent me out Saturday morning. I ate avocado toast b/c I'm a millennial.

Thanks be to God we are all still here and still healthy!

F-5 Turns One!

Monday, August 24, 2020

This boy is moving really fast, still not walking, though not for lack of encouragement. He's extremely verbal, making audible versions of "Grandpa," "Hi, Dad!" and "Mama." While being attacked by the three-year-old (we are doubling-down on that one), F-5 clearly called the Firstborn's name. He's a smartypants with a strong will. We really love this kid and can't believe we ever lived without him!

Our Current Bookends:

The resident 3-year-old also ruined the cake-frosting and everyone's appetite. But we tried! The cake was delicious; and we cut around the fingerprints.

There are always shirtless males in my home. To be fair, this was right after dinner when all the shirts were covered with food. And Mr. Serious was potty-training. The Eldest has decided shirts are good when guests are present; so I rejoice in progress!

When F-5 is awake, he's ridiculously active. His behavior is consistent with his sonogram behavior.

He has 6 teeth currently. We absolutely love when he flashes us a big teeth-y grin.

Because: bottom baby teeth are awesome:

The above looks like his 6 week:

He has super-amazing, long, blond eye lashes.

Current Stats:
Weight: 19 lbs., 8 oz., 21st %
Height: 30", 56th%
Head: 18.9", 93rd%

So, in keeping with our kids' tradition, he is another one-year-old who weighs less than twenty-pounds. Coronavirus lockdown be damned! The rest of us have gained (except for the Engineer); but baby is cruising along like nothing's wrong.
