Talking and Talking!

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

After Sunday's post, we've had some good conversations. Occasionally, she talks to her feet:

We Get Excited About Chicken Around Here!

Monday, September 28, 2015

This one was dancing in front of the stove watching our Parmesan chicken bake. Of course, as soon as he saw the camera, he wanted to see it and forgot his little song and dance. But you get the general idea:

Wouldn't you dance for this?

Chatty Girl

This is just a small sample of how she talks and talks. She doesn't like to do it for my camera; but when I look at her and smile, she will talk and talk.

(Don't judge me for my dirty pants. I've been painting the front room this week. More on that later.)

Ask and You Shall Receive!

Saturday, September 26, 2015

"Dad, can I get a doughnut?"

Our firstborn is a very good negotiator regardless, but there's something to be said for asking for what you want even if you're not. This delicious recipe was picked up from Epicurious I believe.

They were amazing.

This is also how I got our Pope tickets: I asked. By Tuesday night, I had four offers for Capitol lawn tickets and one offer for one ticket to the canonization Mass, which I unfortunately didn't see until this afternoon. God wants to gift us; I'm always surprised by that!? The Pope has been inspiring us in a hundred ways since he touched down here!!

Pope Francis Visit

Thursday, September 24, 2015

In an unprecedented event, a pope -- Francis -- addressed Congress today.
The full text may be found here. He is such an inspiration!

Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated. Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves. Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves. In a word, if we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us. The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.

Our Sweet Four-Year-Old

Thursday, September 10, 2015

It's hard to believe this one's been around for four years!

He is ever energetic, strong-willed, outgoing, and ambitious. He told the practitioner that his favorite food mom makes is "Mac n cheese" at his annual checkup. He counted to 10, named his letters, and thoroughly enjoyed the attention of the visit (except the shots, but he was brave!). I'm so glad we switched to a pediatric practice. They were really good with this boy. He felt very special while he was there.

He is 42" (3.5'), which puts him in the 85th percentile for height (based on U.S. males of all races).
He's also 40 lbs., which is the 81st percentile.

Yet another ice cream cake picked out by the birthday boy.

DH and I bought him a soccer ball (lessons coming this fall). He kicked it around the yard all afternoon. I love watching him play. He has so much energy -- and loves being watched.

He played so hard that by evening he could barely make it through his pasta & meatballs to a second slice of cake. This was a tired boy (sliding off his chair). We love him so much!!

Michigan

We are so lucky that our families are both in the Midwest! We can often see both sets in the same trip. We visited the Michigan family on our way back to Virginia. Everyone generously took off work so that we could celebrate Isaac's birthday together. He requested an ice cream cake. This particular one even has ice cream cones on top of it. It was a winner!

Since everyone loves to visit with the kids, I am so relaxed here. We have lots of help. (Thank you!)

Grandma fed the boys their favorite McDonalds hot cakes and sausage for breakfast.

The boys raced around in their retro cars:

I love this picture of the boys. Isaac understands so much more now. He's less of a toddler and more of a boy. Andre is "Pop Pop's" biggest fan. Here he is wearing his hat and drinking his water.
